What's Happening Onstage at the Moment? (Nov 25th)
The entire stage floor has been painted with 5 coats of pure brilliant white paint. The bulk of the performing area has also been painted with a dusty ice blue mix and this has been sprinkled in snowy white droplets to give a winter wonderland/christmas atmosphere. We are often asked... "why go to great lengths to paint the floor when the audience can't really see it"... we always have the same response...
It is important that performers (especially young set performers) feel that they are part of something theatrical and magical. The floor is an extension of the set. The stage floor (or deck as it is formally named in professional theatre) is also visible to the audience in the gallery! If left from previous productions there would be many unsightly overlapping designs. White also bounces light up onto the performers faces!
Once the floor is complete (next tuesday) a large floor cover will protect the design whilst scenery is built and painted. Once this is complete, the scenery will be bolted onto the sides of the stage to prevent accidental moving, once this is complete we will begin work on a Manger for the Core Young Set to perform the Nativity on!
The Manger will be housed on trucks (moving platforms) which will allow the entire structure to glide backwards and forwards. The Manger will be housed upstage with the performers placed on the structure! As the production unfolds the Manger will glide forwards into a downstage position where the action will begin!
As each Nativity section ends the entire structure will move upstage until needed again (performers and all)!
The various solo's and drama performances will have settings within the main set and these will be built and completed as the rehearsals unfold.
First Plans Revealed (Oct 13th)
Advanced Young Set will team up with
Conservatoire de Theatre to present some fantastic Christmas magic. Rehearsals begin 20th November.
The Core Young Set will perform a stunning Christmas Nativity with the Beginners and Advanced Young Set performing carols throughout.
The Young Set classes will be split into half ensuring each child only performs once in the day. Each child will be doubled up so 2 identical performances are given.
We begin scenic construction on November 15th 2011 and so far plans are set to include two giant Christmas trees, a large stable and tons of fake snow to fall onto the stage!
Other plans include a large group piece performed to Band Aid's "Do They Know it's Christmas?"
The show also features comedy from the
Voice Theatre Company in the form of a Father Ted Parody and comedy from some of the actors. A fun and dazzling street scene will also be acted out by Advanced Young Set and Conservatoire de Theatre.
