Mr James Barnes is a great man who in our early years worked voluntarily at the theatre to transform it from a rundown, ill equipped and unsafe environment, but through hard work, patience, great knowledge and an understanding of our work transformed it into the theatre it is today. A wonderful multi-functional environment that allows great training and talent to be nurtured.
This gentleman has given many years of his life to our cause and has helped to make great changes in our venue which were, very necessary to our existence and work.
A great deal of the changes he implemented many years ago are still benefiting students today. Jimmy, as he prefers to be known, also built many of the sets for our productions in the early days. CTS would not be what it is today if it wasn't for this great and kind man.
He has always been and continues to be a great supporter of our work, and he is excited by the changes and developments ongoing today. Jimmy is in attendance at most productions in the special guest seats with his wife, and thoroughly enjoys watching the students develop over their time with us.
To show our appreciation to Jimmy we have launched the scholarship in honour of his work. The scholarship allows for talented students to come and train with us, whilst the financial commitments are paid for by the scholarship. The scholarship is particularly interested in supporting those who are talented, but are unable to meet the cost of the fees.
Scholarships are awarded to successful applicants after filling out a scholarship application form (available from the box office). The form is designed to enquire into reasons why a person is seeking the benefit of the scholarship and their personal circumstances. A meeting is held with the student and staff team alongside an audition. It is important that this award is given out to the right people in a way which benefits the individual, but also contributes to the nature of the school.
A misplaced Scholarship can prevent the good use of the award, heading in the right direction. The school must satisfy itself that it is received by the correct applicant. Scholarships can be awarded at any time of the year. The scholarship is reviewed yearly based on the previous years efforts, enthusiasm, commitment and the overall work of the student.
It usually takes seven days for a decision to be made. The scholarships do carry with them a signed agreement and this must be completed in the first week of receiving the scholarship. Scholarships are only available to those applying for training at Conservatoire de Theatre & Voice Theatre Company.

This award is an award set up in honour of the men and women who were part of the CTS Committee from 1990 to 2009.
They formed as a committee to help raise much needed funding throughout the period in office. Almost 75% of the facilities we take for granted was paid for by this group. Studio mirrors, lighting technology, sound systems, special effects, scenery, IT equipment and so much more.
Many of them also act as our front of house team on a voluntary basis. This award is aimed at those who are talented and committed but perhaps could only part fund their way through training.
The award is only available to those applying for training at Conservatoire de Theatre & Voice Theatre Company.

George Oldfield, a dear friend of the school and committed and enthusiastic parent who volunteered to come on board and help with scenic construction in mid 2000. His contribution to the theatre has been great indeed. It helped to ensure that our productions were second to none in the amateur and semi-professional arena.
George has contributed many hours to the maintenance and changing world of the theatre structure itself, alongside the scenic building required on stage. He has given tirelessly to our cause and we are truly, very grateful. It is in honour of George Oldfield and his work that this bursary has been made available.
The bursary will cover the cost of the training in return for a small amount of work on a weekly basis at the theatre by the recipient.
The bursary allows successful applicants to train at either Conservatoire or Voice Theatre Company with financial support. It means a successful applicant can offer a contribution of their time to the theatre twice a week (usually evenings) in terms of work, scenic painting and general duties, whilst receiving financial support to cover 100% of the school fees.
Applications are available from the box office.
